Diabetic Diet Plan to Reverse Insulin Resistance

Why consider the diabetic diet plan when you haven’t been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes? If you are having difficulty losing weight, insulin resistance could be the culprit. Insulin is generally thought of as a fat storing hormone, but it is interesting to note how it goes about doing it’s job. Cells require glucose to live and reproduce; if more glucose is available than what the cell needs, the cells are able to store it for later usage. When too much glucose is available over a long period of time, the body releases more and more insulin to deal with the elevated sugar levels. Insulin acts as a key so to speak to open up cells so that they will take glucose in, but when cells are exposed to too much insulin, they can become insensitive to it. This creates a condition referred to as hyperinsulinemia, or literally too much insulin circulating in the blood. High insulin causes glucose to be stored as body fat, and it creates an environment in the body where even if calories are reduced it makes access to the body fat very difficult. Insulin resistance is one of the symptoms of metabolic syndrome, which is a pre-diabetic state.

So what can be done to reverse this trend? The right diet plans such as the diabetic diet plan or the Atkins plan limit carbohydrates, thus eliminating the need for large amounts of insulin in the bloodstream.
